چکیده

Air tra c worldwide continued to grow in 1993, despite the medium-term e ects of the recession in many countries. The direct and indirect costs attributable to air tra c congestion are already enormous, and are predicted to rise to US$10 billion in Europe alone. The challenge is to match the demand with the available capacity. The alternatives are to increase capacity, restrict demand or achieve more e cient utilization of the existing infrastructure. Increasing capacity requires enormous capital expenditure, while restricting demand leads to revenue loss. Some relief can be provided through increasing e ciency, the rationale for the development of new air tra c management procedures and accompanying systems. This paper discusses the di culties of improving air tra c management, and new solutions to these problems.

Hybrid Control Models of next Generation Air Traac Management ?

The study of hierarchical, hybrid control systems in the framework of air traac management (ATM) is presented. The need for a new ATM arises from the overcrowding of large urban airports and the need to more eeciently handle larger numbers of aircraft, without building new runways. Recent technological advances, such as the availability of relatively inexpensive and fast real time computers bot...

Distributed Air Traac Flow Management

The Air Tra c Flow Management (ATFM) service is designed to ensure an optimum ow of air tra c to or through areas within which tra c demand at times exceeds the available capacity of the Air Tra c Control (ATC) system. It protects air tra c control from overload situations which are potentially dangerous to the safety of air tra c. It also ensures the maximum utilization of ATC capacity in all ...

Automatic Air Tra c Management SystemS

| The current Air Traac Management System (ATMS) relies mainly upon human Air Traac Controllers (ATCs) to solve connicts between aircraft plans. A new generation of ATMS is urged to guarantee the safety of future travelers and to reduce nancial loss due to ATC-caused delays. The ATMS presented in thi...

Hybrid Control in Air Traffic Management Systems - Decision and Control, 1995., Proceedings of the 34th IEEE Conference on

In a new collaborative project involving the University of California, Berkeley, NASA Ames Research Center, and Honeywell Systems Research Center, we have begun the study of hierarchical, hybrid control systems in the framework of air traffic management systems (ATMS). The need for a new ATMS arises from the overcrowding of large urban airports and the need to more efficiently land and take off...
